About the Gods
The World, Jhordunne, has seen many gods rise to power and then fade into forgotten memories. The Dholkhavir, which means “Eternal Ones” in the celestial language of the Enae, are the current pantheon to rein supreme. They are beings of the Aetherial Plane who have, for whatever reason, attached themselves to Jhordunne. Neither truly good nor evil, they embody individual domains – aspects of reality and nature. In addition to the Dholkhavir, there are the Dholkhshaen (“Second Ones”), possibly thousands of minor gods worshipped regionally or by specific cultures or groups.
What manner of being the gods are is unknown. They are immensely powerful, but their power is constrained by laws set down at the creation of reality. They all seek followers, but each does so for their own reasons. Some wish to see their domains made manifest, some to see their religious prominence dominate the rest of the pantheon. Others are completely capricious in their dealings with their followers, while some simply wish their followers – and every other living creature – to suffer. The minds of the Dholkhavir are unknowable to mortals.
The Ancient Laws
All of the Gods are bound by The Ancient Laws, set down by Enae when she created The Worlds. These laws are unbreakable. By The Ancient Laws, none of the gods may enter the Material Realm and are bound to the Aetherial. Each has their own pocket within the Aetherial Realm, where they reign supreme; no god may enter the realm of another without permission and, if they do enter, are powerless while present. The gods may not directly harm each other (except within their own realm) nor may they directly harm the Worlds created by Enae and her children. Their touch in the Material Realm is largely limited to power given to their followers, although they can interact in small ways with the physical world.
